The great refectory, Malbork Castle. The long room has an exaggerated vaulted ceiling, held up by regular slender pillars in the middle of the room. The vault ribs are picked out in dark timber, contrasting with the white plaster of the ceiling, and the overall effect is almost like a forest inside the room.

View down the length of part of one outer wall of Malbork Castle. It's built entirely of bricks and roofed with red terracotta tiles. The wall is about three stories high, punctuated with small window opening, and interrupted periodically by much higher six or seven storey towers. Immediately outside the wall is a wide grassed area like a moat, but dry. The nearest tower is paired and forms the entrance for a wooden footbridge.
