Mock Bingo card with options such as Women just aren't interested in this field, There aren’t enough qualified female speakers, You can’t kick out a male speaker just to fit a woman in there, Women need to act more like men, Well, there aren't many female attendees either, and All the women were probably busy.
For those jumping in with any version of #manel bingo- there were other sessions in the same conference that were more diverse.
The decisions about who convenes, who speaks in plenaries, who delivers keynotes, who gets recognition- #manels here are *by design*. 👀

Seriously, *what* is going on at the ASM of the Neuromodulation Society in Sydney this weekend, where (to president Michelle O'Brien's dismay) not only entire sessions, but ALL THREE PLENARIES are #manels from start to finish? It's unacceptable in 2025. 🤨

I've seen more #manels at conferences I've attended and continue to see men talking over women, not believing women, etc. It didn't have to be this way. And it means that we need to speak up when we see these things, even as speaking up becomes harder and more dangerous. ❤️🩹

The same people who argue for 'merit' when selecting #manels- while detailing measures that are known to be biased, like publication numbers- push back against evidence based selection measures like blinded processes. Make it make sense 🤦🏻♀️.
