HEDON is a movement workshop that explores the body as a vessel solely for pleasure. With movement guidance from Tough Boys and sound scape by Alliyah Enyo we will find collectivity, sweat and transcendence. Exploring the body through improvisation and creative tasks, this workshop will use the familiarity of the club as a house to find movement that feels honest and visceral to our bodies. Alliyah will react through sound; as a vocal-led experimental composer and DJ, she will accompany our dancing to amplify the meditation and atmosphere. This workshop is open to all ages and abilities, we want to bring people together who enjoying moving their body. We are super keen to meet people from non traditional and street dance styles, and welcome any approach to movement. Tough Boys are a dance collective based between London and Scotland. Both originally from Scotland’s central belt, co-directors Roseann Dendy and Sula Castle come together to create work that lives in a synaptic landscape of tenderness and brutality. By responding to the world as they see it, they make high-octane performances across stage, clubs and digital spaces, continually questioning the fundamental human condition and its intersections with queerness, religion and class. Tough Boys are the current Young Associates Artists at Sadler’s Wells and are represented by production house Metal&Water Alliyah’s interdisciplinary practice gravitates towards embodied and meditative processes. She harnesses song, somatics and sculpture to create ‘sonorous myth’ installations and performances. Woven soundscapes materialise taking the form of multi-layered tape loops, collaging her voice, foraged field recordings and memories- which are later crafted through the use of reel-to-reel tape and cassette machines.
