Handwritten note on lined Hello Kitty paper dated April 29, 2009, 12:40 pm. The note addresses 'Mom & Ojiichan' and mentions a letter written to Ojiichan in Japanese. The writer expresses exhaustion but is asked to go to Lincoln Park. The note questions where the energy comes from, mentions sleeping from 5:30 am for only 5 hours, and includes a reminder to buy Pull-Ups at Target. Some names are blocked out for privacy.
Sharing a note I came across from 2009! My kid was born with an internal misaligned circadian rhythm for sleep. It didn't become noticeable until the toddler years, but took me until 2018 to figure out Sighted Non24.

For anyone who missed it earlier: my latest interview on Sighted Non-24 is up on the blog. Grateful for the chance to share these important perspectives! #WorldSleepDay #Non24

Sharing a little early here in Seattle for World Sleep Day 2026, which is March 13th this year. From my Blogger page: Totally Circadian (I'm a child of the 80s).

Even in the same clinic, two doctors will have different views about #Non24 in a sighted person.
It's been 8 years since I figured out my kid has sighted #Non24 and 4 years since the diagnosis. Thankfully the first doctor we saw diagnosed after 2 weeks of actigraphy while free-running with sleep. Not everyone is so lucky.
As I go to sleep around 5 am, after cooking for my adult child who woke up at 3:30 am, I'd like to share this link about Non-24. Considered rare in sighted people, it is also mis/under diagnosed. Below I'll share 4 reasons why. #Non24 #RareDiseaseDay

Many who are sighted with #Non24 are misdiagnosed as having Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder (DSPD) because they are forced to adhere to a 24-hour schedule for work or school. The true Non-24 nature only becomes visible when the patient is "off the clock" and allowed to free-run with sleep.
There are different feelings about living with #Non24. Some accept it and prefer to free-run with their sleep. Others are resentful and want to live on a conventional schedule. No "one size fits all" for treatment (if chosen), and it doesn't always work long-term.
Here's an interview I did a few years ago with a young man in Tokyo who lives with Sighted Non-24. We met by chance on Twitter. #Non24 #Circadian #Sleep docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Art has always been my passion and science was a struggle. But due to my child's #Non24, I've become fixated on neuroscience. So I'm taking my first online course to learn some basics. If anyone has suggestions for more courses, please share! www.coursera.org/learn/neurob...
Sighted #Non24 as well!
Sleep specialists are not always accepting that #Non24 happens in sighted people. They've only heard of it happening in blind people (70% of blind people have Non24). So it's still difficult to get an accurate diagnosis. Thankfully, for the past 8 years I've seen changes.
2) Seasonal Light – Lack of sunlight in Seattle's winter makes it easier for my body to do this.
I'm used to wacky sleep schedules, ever since my #Non24 kid was born.
Very grateful to Dr. Lena Xiao, who was able to diagnose a child with Sighted #Non24 in Canada.
And the reason I found your post is because I was searching Bluesky to see if I could find that same video! 😁
Back on Twitter I made a comment about #Non24, tagging him. I was hoping someone would see it.
I'm pretty sure Japanese wrestler Kota Ibushi lives with #Non24 (circadian rhythm sleep disorder).
I feel this. I'm on an upside down sleep schedule lately, going to sleep soon (6 a.m.)! #Caregiver #DSPD #Non24

Irgendwas planen ist literally mission impossible.
Sharing a drawing my 19-year-old did when they were around 4 or 5 years old. This is way before I knew anything about circadian sleep disorders. Art speaks what words cannot. #Non24
I truly appreciate the work of specialists exploring interventions for circadian sleep disorders.
That said, as a parent of a sighted autistic young adult who has experienced #Non24 since toddlerhood, I'd like to add some nuance. [1/3]

My teen experiences #VisualSnow and said it's been present as long as they can remember. Same with #Tinnitus (a related disorder). The ophthalmologist didn't know what it was, so maybe a neuro-ophthalmologist would know. I wonder if there's any connection to #Non24?

Have not paid to read article. But in a past conversation with sleep researcher Michael Gradisar (when I still had a LinkedIn account), he shared that in his clinical experience, about half of the individuals with sighted #Non24 and autism he treated with melatonin saw success.
I came across photos I took in 2022 for my FB advocacy group. The notebook log was used to create a graph using MedHelp sleep tracker (unfortunately no longer around). This and actigraphy for 2 weeks of freerunning sleep is what enabled a diagnosis for my teen's sighted #Non24.
I’m brainstorming advocacy ideas for World Sleep Day 2026, especially focused on sighted #Non24! If you’re a researcher, advocate, or someone with lived experience, I’d love to collaborate. Please comment below or DM me with your ideas or interest. #Non24 #Circadian #SleepDisorder #WorldSleepDay
I'm trying to find out as much as I can about A2A/A1 receptor antagonist CT1500. #Non24 #Circadian #SleepDisorder
Before I figured out my child has sighted #Non24, they were chronically sleep-deprived and got sick often. It was like living with daily jet lag. After their 2018 diagnosis, homeschooling and free-running sleep allowed them to follow their 25-hour day rhythm. Their asthma even resolved.
