A Christmas Tree Worm. The bit of worm you can see are the two spiralled branchioles. They are orange and feathery with white inner colouring and black tips. The worm lives in a tube secreted on coral. The coral polyps are beige, small, and tightly packed.

This worm started it all for me. I studied their ecology for my undergrad. And the rest is history...

Cool worm things: The tube of Diopatra cuprea. Made from algae and shells of the dwarf surf clam (Mulinia lateralis).

A velvet worm on a moist log. The velvet worm is cooked in half and had two chunky antenna at the head. It has a dark grey body with yellow flecks.

They're almost blind and use their antennae to sense prey. Their jaws are so strong they can chop their prey, small fish, crustaceans, and even octopus, in half.
They may be scary but I think they're also beautiful.

They're pretty quick. They need to be able to strike prey quickly and retreat into their burrow to hide from predators quickly. They have been recorded retreating into their burrows faster than you can (probably) bicycle (20 kmph/13 mph).
