When their crucial mission to prevent a global terrorism deal goes horribly wrong, the team's internal trust implodes. Despite the overwhelming challenges and the real threat to his life, Rhett, guided by Jay's advice to "trust your instincts," is determined to make his team succeed. This story was full of intrigue, action and constantly an ambiguity of who to trust. The action was fast and suitably violent. I loved the relationship between Rett and Jay and how tender the two strong men could be. It was great the way that the men from the first two books were involved in this story. This was easy to read, feel and understand. Walker 5 of 5 stars Six months after Travis arrived, Charlie’s once-lonely life on Sutton Station has transformed into something tender and shared. But constant togetherness in the harsh outback begins to strain their bond. Charlie, emotionally reserved and stubborn to a fault, wrestles with feelings he can’t voice, while Travis—open and expressive—struggles with the silence between them. As miscommunication deepens and the line between love and need blurs, Charlie fears he’s driving Travis away. Yet the choice of whether they stay together may be taken out of their hands entirely. I loved this story which explored the fragility of connection, the tension between vulnerability and pride, and the quiet ache of wanting to hold on while not knowing how. I really need to remember that when I read a book by this author to have tissues available as I will be crying at some point - this book was not an exception to that rule! So many emotions in the events of this story. I just love these two men who are perfect for each other. Deacon Clark, an autistic and neurodivergent man working at his father’s veterinary clinic, struggles with social connections and dating due to his bluntness and discomfort with touch. When Winter brings an injured cat to Deacon’s clinic, the encounter sparks an unexpected friendship. With the town’s “Christmas Cupid” and two orphaned kittens nudging them along, their bond grows into something deeper and more meaningful than either anticipated. I loved this story, which celebrated authenticity, inclusivity, and the beauty of unconventional bonds. It suggested that love — whether platonic, romantic, or somewhere in between — is about understanding, patience, and shared care rather than fitting into societal expectations. I also loved that for Winter, his reinvention showed how physical relocation can mirror emotional renewal. It was wonderful to read that Winter’s asexuality and past failed relationships highlighted the struggle of being misunderstood in love. His decision to “shelve dating” reflected both self-protection and resignation. Deacon’s autism and neurodivergence emphasised the challenges of navigating a world that often misunderstands difference. His aversion to touch and bluntness show how social norms can exclude those who don’t fit neatly into them. I thought that their story explored acceptance of self and others — finding belonging without needing to change who they are. Jacob, rooted in his small-town community and dedicated to both Indigenous and LGBTQIA+ outreach, discovers human remains in Tallowwood Reserve that connect directly to August’s cases. Unlike others, Jacob believes August, and together they uncover a chilling pattern. As more bodies surface—including that of a fellow officer—their investigation becomes impossible to ignore. Facing resistance, danger, and the threat of becoming the killer’s next target, August and Jacob must unravel lies and trace the untraceable before time runs out. I loved this mystery story where August’s loneliness collided with Jacob’s warmth to create a story of redemption and connection. I loved that this story was not just about two men confronting death, lies, and danger — but finding life, truth, and love in each other. The serial killer plot is the external battle, while the deeper story is about healing grief through connection, and proving that even in the coldest cases, warmth can be found. I felt that August’s fight against disbelief and bureaucracy mirrored the struggle of marginalised voices trying to be heard, Jacob’s role as both Indigenous and LGBTQIA+ liaison underscored systemic barriers, showing how justice often requires the dismantling of entrenched prejudice and indifference and the killer became a metaphor for what thrives in silence: unchecked violence when institutions fail to act.
