can we bring back #oakmtg for tonight's flock vote in oakland
I might be a little less up in arms if they were clear about what they were doing. It's possible that this whole process is just about getting a strong mayor proposal on the ballot, which I'm fine with. But the working group's mandate from Mayor Lee includes a *huge* range of potential changes […]
I am currently frustrated by the way the process is being run. They started in August, and up until now I've been unable to find any information about when they're meeting or what ideas they're discussing.
I also think this whole thing is backwards: it should be regular Oaklanders deciding what […]
The working group is meant to decide amongst themselves what charter reforms to propose. They'll bring those proposals to Oakland City Council in January (not far off!). If the council approves them, they'll go on the ballot.

A working group of various bigwigs is currently deciding what changes should be made to Oakland's charter. The charter is Oakland's Constitution--it sets ground rules for the city, including […]
Same story with me. I started following #OakMtg in 2011 and very quickly got into planning issues
Oakland, we got an update on this: it passed the committee and is headed towards council in the consent calendar! #oakmtg
But it definitely still needs our support, please contact your councilmember. See details here:
Oaklanders! Tomorrow morning there's an opportunity to speak up in person or on Zoom in favor of Oakland reforming its procurement process (stick with it here) in order to deliver critical street improvements faster and cheaper.

Rapid Response has all the details:
Once I had this working, @maggiefero.bsky.social immediately asked for #oakmtg, and luckily it was the same underlying system.
So one month into the project, we had 50k pages across two cities. Not bad!

I can't vote in #oakland elections (although I follow #oakmtg with interest)
If I could, I'd find this fascinating
Thank you for live-skeeting these meetings. I’m a relatively new Somervillian; returning from the promised lands of California, where I followed the Oakland City council over #oakmtg on Twitter. Great to see the civic spirit continuing in my new home.
I'm catching up on yesterdays #OakMtg, Gallo's first proper crack at chairing full council.
What a mess.

Three new faces on the #oakmtg dais.
City Council members Rowena Brown, Zac Unger and Ken Houston all getting sworn in today, along with City Attorney Ryan Richardson and the re-elected Carroll Fife and Noel Gallo.
I'm watching #OakMtg on zoom and following @hyphyrepublic.bsky.social 's live reporting here.

This piece from @hyphyrepublic.bsky.social is essential reading before tomorrow morning's #OakMtg

While I covered Oakland as a reporter, I learned *so* much about government through all the folks who contributed to and helped build the #oakmtg conversation on that bird app. Dynamic, thoughtful and insightful.
Hey, if you follow #BayArea politics (hi #alamtg, #oakmtg). you’ve probably heard of this thing called “ABAG" -- the Association of Bay Area Govts. They pass resolutions cities abide by on things like housing & transit.
CivicBand now tracks their minutes & agendas: mtc.ca.civic.band/meetings/min...
Relatedly, there are currently two newcomers slated for #oakmtg City Council (Rowena Brown, Zac Unger) who have apparently never spoken at an #Oakland city meeting or served on a commission?

98th Ave saw 8 fatal crashes in the past decade, all at different intersections, highlighting that full corridor approaches to traffic safety are needed not only spot improvements. There were 2 paving projects on 98th during this time, missed opportunities for major fixes #oakmtg
Oakland, and most of our other East Bay cities, haven’t even reached the tip of the iceberg wrt what’s possible via infrastructure safety improvements. Anyone who claims they’re all out of ideas here should step aside & let others get to work. #oakmtg
Dir Kelley also rightly responds that primary capacity issue is wrt filling staff vacancies, not with project construction funding. But then City Admin adds that some intersections can’t be fixed w infra & enforcement/education is needed. I couldn’t disagree more. #oakmtg
CM Kalb asking about increasing traffic calming budget by taking from paving budget. Me: This is a pretty frustrating suggestion when all the extremely flexible general fund money going to OPD is *right there*. Also as Dir Kelley responds, deferring paving will cost more. #oakmtg
CM Reid asking if vacancies will affect International Blvd rapid response work. Staff responds work will be done by contractors & International is among highest priorities w implementation starting this fall. But Caltrans segment east of 42nd Ave seeing more delays. #oakmtg
My thought: Anyone who sends in a lot of 311 reports knows that some issues like dumping & potholes get follow up (often) but other stuff like replacing downed posts or faded lane lines usually gets no fix. #oakmtg
Public comment wrt infra maintenance issues & shoddy contractor work. Staff responds that inspectors try to stay on top of work & individuals can send in 311 reports.
Also only 27 paint/sign staff for entire city, 40% vacancy rate which affects ability to meet need. #oakmtg
5 council members in the session now, special meeting convened. I’m glad to see the importance of this issue recognized by their attendance & participation. #oakmtg
OPD traffic enforcement stops have increased this year, predominantly on high injury network & for primary dangerous driving behavior, but stops are still disproportionately of Black drivers relative to population & crash demographics. #oakmtg
