A pair of Ruddy Shelduck, large, golden brown ducks with pale heads, next to a Grey Heron, tall large grey, black and white bird, on the edge of reed fringed water in warm early morning light.
Better late than never. The #oddcouples theme for #birdoftheday was a challenge for me, but I think these Ruddy Shelduck with a Grey Heron on the Wenyu River, #Beijing cover that and the #urban alt theme.

Cassin's Kingbird and Gila Woodpecker. Arizona.
Late entry because I forgot to hit "post" this morning 😞. My favorite #oddcouples photo is these two on a very popular branch. There was also a Northern Flicker involved! #birdoftheday

A black-crowned night heron (left) and a snowy egret perched side by side in a tree. The heron has a white chest, gray wings and grayish blue back and cap. The egret is white. There is a bit of green growth on the tree, and a light blue sky in the background.

Backed by a gray sky a red-tailed hawk and an American Crow seemingly fly in a duet, their shapes mirror images. Of course the crow is much smaller than the hawk.
Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #OddCouples - two different birds in one capture
Was heading out for a hawk and glanced up and saw an aerial dance between a red-tailed hawk and a crow. (of course it's not a nice dance—The crow was harrying the hawk to get it to leave!)

A Bohemian Waxwing on a branch with their beak open. The bird is yelling as down and to the right is a Sparrow biting the Waxwing's tail. There are out of focus branches and blue sky in the background.
A Baltimore Oriole in the upper left corner and a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak on the right. They are yelling at each other. The Oriole is orange and black and the Grosbeak has a white body with a red bib and a black head.

Red-winged Blackbird on the rump of a Sandhill Crane. The small red-winged blackbird harasses the sandhills all summer during breeding season as they are territorial. The harassment usually cools off after their young are raised. However, sandhills have been known to raid their nests. I have also seen great friendship between these two species during migration.
The red-winged blackbird can be relentless when harassing the sandhill cranes.
This red-winged blackbird was getting very chatty with the green heron at the pond.
I was surprised how long this odd couple (red-winged blackbird and green heron) sat in close proximity after some excitement when the red-winged blackbird came in for it's landing very close o the heron.
Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #OddCouples.
I often see red-winged blackbirds on sandhill cranes, but I don't often see the red-winged blackbird socializing with the green herons. A couple shots of each.

A blue parakeet rides the back of a small pigeon that has brown wings with black stripes and shiny greenish accents on their wings. The pigeon with orange eyes walks across a short-mown meadow in the sunlight, carrying the other bird. In the bottom left corner there is my copyright saying 'C. P. / All rights reserved. alt bird of the day: urban
For descriptions, see alt text! I picked 2 of each!
I really had to dig back for 2 birds.. I just don't take that many photos of more than one species in a shot. Maybe I'll try to do that more.

Bird of the day theme is odd couples - two different birds in one capture. Here I’ve got a grey heron and a pelican at the London Zoo, and an actual odd couple - a greylag and Canada goose who spent some time bickering then settled down :))
