With the pulsating rave score, I should've known SIRAT wouldn't have an expected story path. I literally screamed "WTF?!" at the midpoint shock & yet even that didn't prepare me for the explosive final act to come. Some nice scenes about found family, but confusing motivations 3* #ODR 50/50 125/125

Can't believe how deep the school indoctrination goes in MR NOBODY AGAINST PUTIN & how many things reminded me of the current state of the US. Pavel is such a courageous teacher, capturing the propaganda spewed at his students. I hope he stays safe & doesn't become a Navalny 3.5* #ODR 49/50 123/125

A Friend of Dorothy - full Oscar nominated short film starring Miriam Margolyes and Stephen Fry
A Friend of Dorothy - full Oscar nominated short film starring Miriam Margolyes and Stephen Fry YouTube video by Attitude Magazine

A FRIEND OF DOROTHY is a lovely short with stellar acting from Margolyes & Nwachukwu (Lloyd is too much of a grandson caricature w/ too many bad line readings for me). Loved watching Dorothy & JJ bond over a shared love of theatre, even if the story was pretty by the numbers 3.5* #ODR 48/50 122/125

Getting to the late stages of the #ODRSZN and not a great idea to forget pucks on the ice.

Still lots of ice left, but there some brittle areas and crevasses along the boards.

Pushing for March skates in a week!

It took a while to get into CUTTING THROUGH ROCKS, but I was locked in after the elections. Sara's struggles to bring prosperity to her village shouldn't surprise me, but the extent sure did. Amazing how a motorcycle ride could almost bring tears (first of joy, then of anger) 4* #ODR 47/50 121/125

I knew what VOICE OF HIND RAJAB was about but I was still unprepared for such horror. Hearing Hind's voice alongside the re-enactment of the Red Crescent's absurd attempts to save her was heartbreaking. And to think this is just one of countless atrocities still happening FP🇵🇸 4.5* #ODR 46/50 120/125

LITTLE AMÉLIE OR THE CHARACTER OF RAIN is a French-Belgian anime evocative of Ghibli at times. Amelie is a precocious toddler who begins the film thinking she's God. Her relationship w/ nanny Nishio-san is adorable & nearly made me cry. Some gorgeous animation & a lovely score 4* #ODR 45/50 119/125

At nearly 3 hrs KOKUHO dragged at times (and yet strangely felt like it missed some major scenes between the two leads). The kabuki numbers were transcendent—Yoshizawa & Yokohama (& also Watanabe) did amazing work. This really made me appreciate a new art form. Amazing makeup 3.5* #ODR 44/50 118/125

BUTCHER'S STAIN tells a simple story of bigotry in the workplace as one Arab Israeli is adored by his coworkers until everyone assumes the worst when a hostage poster is found torn down. The film is well-shot, but I'm not sure I understand why the custody subplot was present. 3.5* #ODR 43/50 117/125

THE SINGERS is an unexpected joy—a short that hangs in a bar with a strange cross-section of men when the bartender offers free beer & $100 to whoever is the best singer. The film heightens just as you'd expect & ends quite suddenly, but still it's a nice (if dark) short ride 3.5* #ODR 42/50 116/125

Are we sure Diane Warren didn't ghostwrite the song for VIVA VERDI! & that's how this little-known doc got a nom? The story of a retirement home Verdi created for aging musicians is interesting, but the film's focus switches so often that it's hard to care much about anyone. 2.5* #ODR 41/50 115/125

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind—IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT explores the moral quandary of how ex-prisoners choose to move past their torture & how that path changes after (maybe) capturing their torturer. Panahi works wonders w/non-actors & crafts a perfect ending 4.5* #ODR 40/50 114/125

CHILDREN NO MORE: WERE AND ARE GONE shows how powerful a silent protest can be as hundreds of Israeli activists try to end the genocide in Gaza by holding posters of all the young lives lost in this war. Sad as that may be, it's even sadder some of the reactions they receive 4* #ODR 39/50 112/125

I want to see some BLUE MOON behind-the-scenes because Hawke's shortening constantly distracted me. He gives a superb performance delivering ~80% of the film's lines & Qualley's great w/ her 10% but Linklater's bullet-fast script & confined location was insufferable at times 3.5* #ODR 38/50 111/125

It’s been a busy weekend with 5 stints on the ice, including 2 games and his social calendar. Great season at the M&M Arena with about a month to go!

Norway takes the brutal Brothers Grimm version of Cinderella & tells it from THE UGLY STEPSISTER's point of view. With some truly gruesome body horror, Myren's performance is fascinating to watch (sometimes w/ my eyes covered). The film takes the idea Beauty is Pain to eleven 2.5* #ODR 37/50 109/125

Fuck the police. Fuck for-profit prisons. Fuck power-tripping prison guards. Fuck Steve Marshal. Fuck Kay Ivey. THE ALABAMA SOLUTION is 2 hours of horrendous first-hand accounts of the mistreatment & murders in AL state prisons. Sad how the 13th Amendment still allows slavery 4.5* #ODR 36/50 108/125

I had trouble connecting to THE SECRET AGENT because the film doesn't explain anything for half its run time, but the suspense made the time fly by & the ending delivered. Moura is incredible (especially in the epilogue), as were Maria & Francisco. Goes well w/ I'm Still Here 4.5* #ODR 35/50 107/125

KPDN proposes creating integrated ODR in e-commerce reform – Armizan KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) plans to create a more comprehensive dispute resolution framework through an integrated online dispute resolution (ODR) platform. The relevant minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, said the proposal was among the findings from a study conducted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to reform the existing e-commerce legal framework, following 33,400 complaints related to e-commerce transactions received by the ministry between 2023 and 2025. “This ODR is an improvement to the existing ADR (alternative dispute resolution) which will involve a complete chain process, from filing to the adjudication […]

Fire is hard to fake, so the VFX nom for THE LOST BUS feels well-deserved (despite Greengrass's camerawork obfuscating the effects). The random real footage drew me out every time & the writing doesn't live up to McConaughey & Ferrera. Way too many scenes of kids screaming 2.5* #ODR 34/50 103/125

RELENTLESS made me realize perennial Oscar bridesmaid DIANE WARREN wrote way more songs than I knew. The doc does its best trying to find what makes her tick, but she's a stubborn woman with no process—just an Asperger's-driven work ethic & never-ending desire for an Oscar 3.5* #ODR 33/50 102/125

If ever there was a film that shouldn't be on Netflix, it's Netflix's TRAIN DREAMS. Started it a month ago, but knew I couldn't watch it w/home distractions & I wish I could have seen these shots on a big screen. Edgerton was robbed of a nom—I loved his performance (and Macy's) 3* #ODR 32/50 101/125

ARCO felt like a Ghibli-lite story of time travel, friendship & environmental horrors. I wish AMC had the subbed version, but #ODR racers can't be picky, I guess. I'd have loved some more world-building (in either timeline). The rainbow trio were at times both annoying & hilarious. 3.5* 31/50 97/125

THE DEVIL IS BUSY is a depressing look at a day in the life of the security & medical staff of an Atlanta abortion clinic as they simply try to administer health care while dealing with racist Hwite Christians (is that redundant?). Smart to focus on a Christian worker 3.5* #ODR 30/50 96/125

My wife asked if THE SMASHING MACHINE was about that wrestler who went crazy & killed his family and I kinda wish it had been. Not sure why this story had to be told. Johnson's fine (aided by the amazing makeup), Blunt does great w/every cliche she's given & Bader's a surprise 2.5* #ODR 29/50 95/125

ELIO didn't quite have the Pixar magic to make me fall in love on first viewing but it had many cute moments, some moving scenes & a lot of interesting character designs. Glordon was a fun creation (warmongering tardigrade race?!) as was the clone. Wish my kids loved this more 3.5* #ODR 28/50 94/125

I only learned who Andrea Gibson was after their passing, so imagine my surprise when COME SEE ME IN THE GOOD LIGHT was a doc about them & their partner dealing with the ups & downs of their diagnosis. Such wonderful poetry—Would've loved if their song also had gotten nom'd 4* #ODR 27/50 93/125
