Hill Top Farm, Winter (1949), an oil painting by American artist Maxfield Parrish. It is located in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Description
The artwork is a landscape painting emblematic of the Regionalism movement, depicting a serene rural American winter scene under a striking, luminous blue sky that transitions to a lighter, almost ethereal blue near the horizon. A large, bare tree dominates the foreground, with its dark silhouette contrasting against the snow-covered hill. Farm buildings are visible in the background, their windows glowing with warm light and smoke rising from a chimney, creating a cozy and tranquil ambiance.
Location
The original painting is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Medium
The artist utilized oil on Masonite (a type of hardboard). Parrish achieved the painting's signature jewel-like finish and vibrant colors through a painstaking technique of applying numerous transparent glazes over a blue underpainting on a white ground, sealing each layer with varnish.

"At Close of Day" is a tranquil 1941 landscape painting by Maxfield Parrish that depicts a quiet, snowy evening scene.
Description
Sky and Light: The painting is renowned for its mesmerizing, luminous sky, which transitions in color from a deep blue at the top to a vibrant, glowing green near the horizon. This distinctive use of color and light is a signature of Parrish's style, achieved through a laborious process of applying multiple, translucent oil glazes over a monochromatic underpainting.
Composition: The scene is dominated by the dark, intricate silhouettes of bare, winter trees that create a delicate latticework against the vibrant backdrop. On the left side of the composition, a church or similar building is visible, with warm light emanating from its windows, suggesting life and warmth within the cold landscape.
Mood: The overall atmosphere is one of serene solitude and peaceful stillness, designed to evoke a contemplative or nostalgic emotion in the viewer.
The artwork is a prime example of Parrish's later career focus on landscapes, where he moved away from fantastical illustrations to capture the quieter, idealized beauty of nature.

A wonderful landscape with vibrant colours, excellent lighting, and meticulously done reflections.

Maxfield Parrish remains one of the most popular 20th century artists from the golden age of illustration, and I believe he still holds the record for most prints of one of his paintings sold. He achieved his trademark luminosity and effects by painting in transparent glazes, each layer sealed in varnish.

Subject Matter: The painting features a rustic mill beside a serene pond, with a towering tree and distant, violet-tinged mountains reflected in the water, creating a harmonious blend of nature and architecture.
Artistic Process: Parrish employed a unique method, including photographing the actual 19th-century mill in Quechee, Vermont, and even creating a model of the structure for further photographic reference.
Commercial Success: "Mill Pond" was one of Parrish's most commercially successful landscapes, widely reproduced by the Brown & Bigelow Publishing Company for calendars, greeting cards, and prints.
Significance: This painting is considered one of Parrish's masterworks and is noted for its dreamlike stillness and idyllic portrayal of nature, showcasing his signature use of vivid color and precise detail.

"New Hampshire Hills" (also known as "New Hampshire Landscape"), created in 1932 by American artist Maxfield Parrish.
Description of the Painting:
Subject Matter: The painting captures the picturesque countryside of New Hampshire, showcasing a landscape without human figures, which was characteristic of Parrish's later period. This focus on nature alone allows for a more personal and introspective experience for the viewer.
Composition: The foreground features prominent, sun-drenched rocks with a distinctive golden-yellow hue, possibly achieved through Parrish's meticulous color mixing techniques. A tall tree with rich, autumnal-toned foliage stands prominently in the mid-ground, anchoring the composition.
Background: Beyond the immediate foreground, a body of water is visible, possibly representing the Connecticut River Valley near Parrish's home in Plainfield, New Hampshire. Rolling hills and distant mountains, rendered in softer, more subdued tones, recede into the background under a clear sky.
Artistic Style: The work exemplifies Parrish's signature luminous technique and meticulous attention to detail and atmosphere. He was known for his distinctive saturated hues and idealized imagery, which are evident in the vibrant colors and serene quality of the landscape.

NGL I'm not paying attention to #Parrish mainly because it's the NFL's first weekend, but the music is hella melodramatic 😆 But the setting might as well have been in an asbestos factory, retitling the film #Perish 🚬

Just checked into #Parrish and caught this profound line:

There comes a time when you realize if you close your eyes just once too often to what’s right and decent, you’ll never open them again.
