Also, being told by a parent how much I suck at my job throughout much of the second half was really the finishing touch on a disastrous season. #pcbb #FRIAR
Providence is back within nine after six straight with Zuby on the bench, and we just got the patented quick Rick trigger at the 10:31 mark.
Pitino after a timeout is usually undefeated. We’ll see how it goes on the other side of this 20-11 lead. #sjubb #pcbb
Providence was down 16 nine minutes into the game yesterday. It trails by 15 today with 11:53 remaining in the opening stanza.
The problem for the Friars? St. John’s isn’t Butler, and the 20-5 lead the Johnnies currently have is being better defended thus far. #sjubb #pcbb
Oswin has two fouls for Providence, and that second one was a pretty unnecessary shot at Zuby, who hit the deck.
Nothing serious came from it, however. #sjubb #pcbb
St. John’s has broken the ice on the rim. Zuby’s dunk just scattered whatever shards still remained.
It’s 7-0, Johnnies, and Kim wants a timeout after three minutes and seven seconds. #sjubb #pcbb
St. John’s was actually 0-for-6 on that first possession before Mitchell got one to fall. Providence can’t get anything to go so far either, and it’s 2-0 in favor of the Johnnies with two minutes gone by. #sjubb #pcbb
Off and running on 33rd and 8th, but Zuby got a long offensive rebound of a missed three. He got two more boards on St. John’s next two shot attempts right after that, then mjssed a hook shot. St. John’s went 0-for-6 on its first possession. #sjubb #pcbb
X-Pac heat for Bryce Hopkins, but a fairly loud and boisterous Zub call for Ejiofor immediately after. #sjubb #pcbb
Starters for both sides:
Providence — Jaylin Sellers, Stefan Vaaks, Ryan Mela, Jamier Jones and Oswin Erhunmwunse.
St. John’s — Dylan Darling, Oziyah Sellers, Dillon Mitchell, Bryce Hopkins and Big East Player of the Year Zuby Ejiofor.

ZEBRA ALERT — Today’s officials for St. John’s/Providence: Brian O’Connell, Mike Roberts and Evon Burroughs.
It’s the eighth Johnnies game for the Notorious BOC this season, more than any other whistle, and the fourth each for Roberts and Burroughs. #sjubb #pcbb
Back at MSG for one of the top five sports days of the year.
Quarterfinal Thursday at the Big East tournament starts with game #83, and regular season champion St. John’s meeting Providence one more time in the curtain-raiser today. #sjubb #pcbb
Honored to share that I’ll be handling game recaps for the Big East website this week on top of the coverage for my own outlet.
Here are some words on Providence’s win over Butler earlier today as the Friars took down the Bulldogs. #pcbb #DawgsOnly
“English class is still in session.” #pcbb
Providence coaches are yelling “got 40 more minutes” in the tunnel leading out from the court.
Tomorrow is going to be a dandy.

Providence in this building is just a different animal.
The Friars didn’t need two overtimes to beat Butler this time, erasing a 16-point first-half deficit to beat the Bulldogs, 91-81.
Vaaks (28), Sellers and Mela (23 apiece) almost matched Butler by themselves. #pcbb
Vaaks just iced it from dead center. We’re getting Providence and St. John’s tomorrow.
Providence 87, Butler 78, 1:15 to go. #pcbb
Ryan Mela and Stefan Vaaks have stolen the stage from Michael Ajayi.
The former has 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists, the latter has 20 and is shooting with a purpose going to the U8.
Providence is up 10 with 7:26 left, 74-64 the score. #pcbb
Providence is up 10 after another Sellers triple, and the let’s go Friars chants have intensified. #pcbb
Providence went on a 12-0 run to lead by as many as nine, but Butler is back within seven at the U12. Ajayi just picked up his third foul going to the timeout, however.
The difference in this game? Butler is 1-for-9 from three. Providence is 8-for-18 while leading, 63-56. #pcbb
Val Ackerman was just roundly booed by Providence fans after being introduced by public address announcer Mike Watts.
Three Friars (Vaaks and Mela with 14 apiece, Jones with 10) have scored double-digit points as Butler clings to a 52-51 lead with 15:45 to play. #pcbb
Providence is going to the line on the other side of the timeout after Ajayi fouled Jamier Jones on a dunk attempt. If he makes both, the Friars are within one possession with 2:58 left before halftime.
Butler leads the Friars by five right now, 36-31. #pcbb
Don’t look now, but Providence is within five. Both games against Butler this year went to double overtime, so the Friars may just be getting started here.
PC fans have made themselves heard recently too, and erupted again after Vaaks’ last triple. #pcbb
Butler has nine straight after Providence’s opening bucket, and Kim wants a half-minute across the court from us.
It’s the Bulldogs 9, and the Friars 2, with 2:55 gone. Michael Ajayi is as good as advertised, by the way.
#DawgsOnly #pcbb
Off and running in the Big East tournament. If you had Jaylin Sellers getting the first points after 17 seconds, you’re a winner.
Away we go for the next four days. #pcbb
Starters for both sides:
Providence — Jaylin Sellers, Stefan Vaaks, Jamier Jones, Ryan Mela and Oswin Erhunmwunse.
Butler — Finley Bizjack, Jamie Kaiser, Efeosa Oliogu-Elabor, Michael Ajayi and Drayton Jones.
Fired up to finally watch Ajayi and the Bulldogs for the first time.

ZEBRA ALERT — Today’s officials for Butler/Providence: Greg Evans, John Gaffney and Nathan Hall.
Evans led the Big East in conference whistles this season, and he’s leading off the tournament. Gaffney on the opener is a little bit of a surprise. #DawgsOnly #pcbb
NEW YORK — The greatest show on earth begins today.
Game #80, starting my 17th Big East tournament with Butler and Providence in the 8/9 game. The winner gets St. John’s at 12:00 tomorrow. #DawgsOnly #pcbb
