Secular citizens, pious MPs: Attitudes about genetic testing are more permissive than German laws
Germany has much stricter laws on pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (#PGD) than many of its neighbours. I use a survey experiment to show that Germans are more liberal than their MPs and would opt for permissive rules (like in Belgium and the UK) if they were given the choice. This is because German citizens are way more secular than members of parliament. This political secularism is not adequately represented in the Bundestag.
