The pillars are labeled: 1) Military, 2) Schools, 3) Government, 4) Business, 5) Religion, 6) Media. Weakening one, or more, of the pillars weakens the foundation of the regime-if enough pillars crack the regime falls. Ppl know other ppl who are part of each institution within each pillar. By talking with, withholding support from, or boycotting (among other things) institutional support can be influenced & pillars can be weakened.

#PillarsOfSupport is a concept everyone needs to be aware of & understand. I’ll add that the pillars apply to forces we want to apply pressure to & forces we want to strengthen in our society. This video does great job explaining the concept in <4 mins.

Ahem: autocrats rely on #PillarsofSupport i.e., a broad social base to maintain minority power. These pillars are made of actual individuals, so when enough of us are persuaded to “defect” by withdrawing our support from the authoritarian regime—NO dictator can keep falsely claiming legitimacy!
