Was talking this morning with #playstreets colleagues about how play facilitates "neighbouring"; many past and present play streets have WhatsApp or Facebook groups which developed alongside play street organisation and morphed into more general sources of street support.

This is the house on the street where my #playstreets journey started. Our play street, started in 2015, created so much ordinary magic, so much play and friendship and neighbourliness. It will be a wrench to leave, but I am so grateful - and proud - to have made this street a play street.

Estate agent blurb for a house for sale on my street: “Step outside to discover a charming town garden, an ideal retreat for children to play or for hosting outdoor get-togethers on sunny days. Alma Place is a unique play street, ensuring a safe and friendly environment where children can thrive, creating lasting memories in a close-knit community.”
But also to think about how the street itself - the space, the relationships, the atmosphere - is transformed by years of #playstreets, and what lingers after the organised sessions stop.
On my street, though we no longer play out formally, estate agents still make claims for the street:

The way some people react to kids chalking on #playstreets these days, this message certainly sunk in.
The 33 participants reflected on their own #playstreets experiences from the perspectives of working for local authorities (variously in public health, highways, communities, children's participation, etc.), community and voluntary groups, and housing associations, sharing good practice & concerns.
We had another really successful @playingout.bsky.social Play Streets Forum this morning, discussing how to navigate the sometimes tricky waters of social media around #playstreets and engage communities, with Child Friendly Leeds' Rowan Beaumont talking about their very positive experiences.
