Nude art is a funny thing. Early on, I was amazed at how many people jumped in to help me figure out which end of the camera to point at people. I'm more amazed at the way that it's changed how I see everything around me. I've never seen it as sexual -- sexY, perhaps, of course. But having spent my entire adult life living with girlfriends and wives I may have lost my teenage reaction to "wow, she's NAKED"...lol. Now to explain that to jealous boyfriends!

This particular model was absolutely fantastic to work with -- she was playful and funny and our shoots would dissolve into barrages of giggles before she would snap a serious look back on her face and hit a pose. I guarantee that the picture AFTER this one is her peeking out from behind her fingers as she laughs at the audacity of the whole thing. But like any great moment, it couldn't last.

The new boyfriend was appalled at HIS girlfriend doing such things and after missing a couple shoots with bad excuses she finally admitted that she was forbidden to model anymore. Not long after they moved and she disappeared into the bush of ghosts that is our modern world. I hope she kept these pictures tucked somewhere.

Those first couple years were big learning leaps for me. I probably shot with sixty or seventy volunteers. A dozen or so were naturals. At least three of them I could have worked with forever and never gotten tired of seeing them. Each was just an outstanding person -- bright and funny with a sense of self and playfulness that stood out. The studio and warehouse went away in the pandemic and I miss the freedom it gave. There was no sense of being rushed. That space was where I honed a familiarity with failure and learned some of the limits of a camera sensor. It never looks as amazing on the little screen as it does when you're there in person.

The first two years of my obsession with patterns and color saturation were spent in a tiny little studio that I built out in the corner of my warehouse. #experimental #nikon #pdxphotographer #pushthelimit #howdoesthiswork #blueperiod
