Two Greater rheas, one with a feather on its bill.

An interesting bit of behaviour seen at #Birdworld yesterday: this rhea was very deliberately playing with this large feather, repeatedly balancing it on its head, throwing it back there if it fell off, and running about the enclosure in an excited state. #birds #ratites

Moa are #ratites, a group of flightless birds that include living emus, cassowaries & ostriches. It also includes the extinct #ElephantBird of Madagascar, which rivals the #Moa for the title of largest known bird. The Elephant bird is the heaviest known bird, while the Moa is the tallest.
