6/6. To be clear, this is not a criticism of the #RBST and Christopher’s needful emphasis of breeds currently at risk. The #RBST do great work. This is just a simple point about the changing implications of particular terminology.
3/6. I think it’s time to stop using the term in relation to livestock breeds. Negative associations of primitiveness only serve to exacerbate a problem that Christopher Price and his team at the #RBST are trying to address.
1/6. On BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today this morning there was an important discussion about rare breeds. The Rare Breeds Survival Trust does vital work in this area. The #RBST Chief Executive Christopher Price’s reference to Manx Loaghtan sheep as a ‘primitive breed’ sparked discussion of the term.

Ruth is a rare breed, an English Goat, #EGBA #RBST and a Rare Breeds Survival Trust Priority breed. English goats are a little smaller than the bigger British Toggenburg and British Saanen breeds. They are compact and hardy and make the best use of any browsing they can find. Including my garden.
