I made a LOT of friends on the various instant meesengers, and later Myspace (Gads, there's a throwback). Being social was far more easier back then. There was no bullshit to wade through, or fake AI chatbots flooding the web.
It was just so much easier.

AOL Instant Messenger I used a lot, as there was this girl I chatted with non-stop. She was in Silverado, CA and I was living in Sheffield, UK. We actually met on ICQ and migrated to AIM. I'd stay up till sunrise chatting with her, every day. I wound up meeting her when I moved to LA.

Looking back at late 90s and early 2000s internet, it was a fun time. You weren't being bombarded with what floods the internet today. It was more a Wild West frontier where you could have fun, and there were no restraints.

I remember the good old days of Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger and ICQ. Those wonderful sounds as you sent messages, the sound of doors opening and closing as friends logged in or off. The chatrooms, the first takes with online roleplay gaming in chatrooms.
