To me, there’s a better way! That’s what I’ll be building at #Roughcut.
I don’t know what the business model will be or how big of a problem this is but I think it’s a major one.
This is also only one side of the coin. The other side is the problem college coaching staffs face.
These markets come at a pretty penny to the consumers with little in return.
The only feedback an athlete and their families get is when coaches are interested.
Which is fine if you have interest but what if you don’t? What if the schools interested in you aren’t what you want?

The principle of needing to be seen still exists today. The exposure based model still applies but it’s been amplified.
With the rise in sports, social media, private investments, and a culture accustomed to instant gratification, massive markets have been created.

I eventually found my way. I landed at CU Boulder where I played MCLA lacrosse.
I was fortunate to have a football coach who was a recruiting guru to keep me honest. My parents also were very real with me.
These 2 things were critical to my college decision. Which changed my life.

The further down the pipeline you got, you’d either read the writing on the wall or decide between a few schools after doing official visits.
For me, I wanted to play D1 football. Well your boy wasn’t a D1 football player. I got D2 offers but I didn’t want to go to a D2 college.

Generally, this meant you either went to a private school with a great team or tried to make your public school team really good.
You’d probably attend some camps, showcases, tournaments, or all the above depending on the sport.
You might get some earlier letters or emails.

In order to get a decent college offer, you had to be “seen”. I call this the “exposure model”.
Where in order to be seen by a college coach, you have to be in the right place at the right time, have solid connections, or have a ton of disposable income.

I dreamed that I would play football in college. After that, I’d be drafted in the NFL.
Clearly I didn’t understand all the things that would have had to be earned or fall into place to make that happen
While these genes weren’t NFL genes, I did have a dream!

I’ve played sports nearly my whole life. Like many of us, I started with soccer, then it was tee ball, then it was basketball, then football.
I was playing multiple sports a year because I loved it. I couldn’t get enough of it
