ATU Local 618-Providence, RI, and the Save RIPTA campaign report rips RIPTA service cuts for negative impact on riders, workers, and the community. #SaveRIPTA
Packed house for the #SAVERIPTA coalition’s release of their report on the impact of the worst cuts to service in 50+ years!! We’re introducing legislation to ensure this never happens again. Public transit is a public good.
This cold weather is gonna be so much more unbearable now that RIPTA buses are more and more often 10 minutes late or more! We really need to #saveripta
Fuck car-centricism. Fuck the Ford F-150. #SaveRIPTA
Thank you. We've been fighting long and hard at @pvdstreets.bsky.social to #SaveRIPTA and unfortunately came up short. McKee just doesn't give a shit, and our GA was only willing to plug half the deficit.
My friends tell me that Helena attended the #saveRIPTA rally last night. She's been outspoken about the need to fund mass transit in our state.
Big contrast to current "leadership." /4
Before heading into the weekend:
• Read this op-ed by Rep. @jcasi-25.bsky.social regarding Governor McKee’s failure to properly fund RIPTA 🚌⚓️
• Call @GovDanMcKee.bsky.social’s office at 401-222-2080 and demand full funding for RIPTA. Gutting transit service undermines progress!!🚨

THE CITY OF NEWPORT R E S O L U T I O N OF THE C O U N C I L No. CITY OF NEWPORT A Resolution in Opposition to Proposed RIPTA Service Cuts Affecting Aquidneck Island WHEREAS, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has proposed service reductions as part of its plan to manage a fiscal year 2026 deficit; and WHEREAS, among the proposed service changes, Routes 60, 63, 64, 68, 231, and the Flex 203 South Aquidneck Zone are slated for elimination, service reduction, ending weekend service, or other restructuring—directly impacting Aquidneck Island communities, including Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth; and WHEREAS, such changes would have severe consequences for Aquidneck Island riders; and WHEREAS, the elimination of Route 68 would sever connectivity between one of Newport’s densest neighborhoods of residents from downtown and crucial social services in Middletown, undermining local equity goals; and WHEREAS, Route 64 cuts would eliminate direct transit access between Aquidneck Island and the University of Rhode Island, striking a major blow to island students and would undercut efforts to link education and employment centers; and WHEREAS, these service changes would leave many island residents, particularly seniors, low-income families, students, hospitality workers, and those dependent on public transit, effectively stranded, unable to access employment, healthcare, educational institutions, or essential services; and
WHEREAS, eliminating existing fixed-route service significantly reduces the likelihood of future restoration, jeopardizing long-term local and regional mobility; restoring demand alone may not prompt reinstatement of routes once they are fully eliminated; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Newport City Council strongly opposes the RIPTA proposed service cuts affecting Aquidneck Island and Newport, and respectfully requests that RIPTA reconsider these proposed service cuts; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Newport stands ready to collaborate with RIPTA, neighboring municipalities, state officials, and transit advocates to identify equitable, community-informed solutions that support public transit on Aquidneck Island and Rhode Island as a whole; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Governor, legislative leadership and Newport legislative delegation, RIPTA Board and CEO, and the towns of Middletown and Portsmouth. Wow! I think Newport is the only municipality in Rhode Island that passed a resolution in opposition to the proposed RIPTA service cuts, especially on the routes that affect Aquidneck Island! 🚌⚓🌊 #SaveRIPTA #TransitIsEssential

Rhode Islanders want to keep the independence they have using public transit. We know you don’t think you’re the only one entitled to independence in RI! Isn’t that right, govdanmckee.bsky.social ?
NO CUTS TO RIPTA!
#SaveRIPTA
TY, @jcasi-25.bsky.social!
I am grateful for Speaker Shekarchi and all of our Transit Champs in @rihouseofreps.bsky.social.
I hope we'll usher in a new era of transit & housing by working together.

Another example of guerrilla urbanism seen at a bus stop on Hope Street by Lippitt Memorial Park in Providence: fund RIPTA chair! 🪑 🚏🚌 #SaveRIPTA #FundTransit
Just called again. This time I said that I couldn't possibly vote in the 2026 Democratic primary for a governor that would do this to Rhode Island. #SaveRIPTA
What @govdanmckee.bsky.social wants if he doesn't #saveripta.
Big same here in Providence RI, Joi. #SaveRIPTA
Our rents rose an average of 12% last year (highest in USA.) If we could afford cars, if we were interested in emitting hydrocarbons, we would still have no place to park those machines. I want my bus.
@govdanmckee, Fund RIPTA.

No Cuts to RIPTA!

This is another example of how Peter Alviti & Gov. McKee have prioritized RIDOT over RIPTA. Imagine if the money taxpayers paid to keep tow trucks on standby on the #WashingtonBridge had been available to @ripta.com 🚌 #SaveRIPTA
This is a victory for all the everyday Rhode Islanders who demanded that our state government #SaveRIPTA 👏🏽
Attended the @pvdstreets.bsky.social “Riders Stranded by the State” rally in Downtown Providence to demand @govdanmckee.bsky.social, House Speaker @joeshekarchi.bsky.social & Senate President Valarie Lawson to fully fund @RIPTA.com to stop proposed service cuts. Transit is essential!! 🚌✊🏽 #SaveRIPTA
I was proud to join neighbors and speak against the devastating cuts to RIPTA service tonight at the Barrington Library.
Public transit is critical to our state’s and neighbors’ well-being. It lends mobility for all.
“This is a service that expands people’s worlds.” “Buses are freedom.”
#SaveRIPTA
I love this, and I hate that we need it: DIY transit infrastructure, demanding that we properly invest in *actual* infrastructure. (if you can’t read the writing on the chair, it says FUND RIPTA). #saveRIPTA
I agree with my #RhodeIsland State Senator Meghan E. Kallman. #SaveRIPTA
Sign the petition and call Gov McKee to tell him to #SAVERIPTA, a lifeline for many and a critical service in the fight against climate change.
Had a guy compliment me on my hoodie at Providence Station as he was waiting for a RIPTA bus, which was nice! Everyone likes this Umbreon hoodie of mine! I told that person to give a big thumbs down to the state capitol on my behalf before he boards his bus. He appreciated the info! #saveripta
Senator Whitehouse, if it's not too late could you please help your constituents convince Governor McKee to save RIPTA! @govdanmckee.bsky.social is over funding RIDOT while 1% of that budget is all RIPTA needs! Please convince him to fund public transit lest he be primaried next year! #SaveRIPTA 🗳️
Thanks for spreading the word!! Transit is essential!! #SaveRIPTA
The independent study of @ripta.com operations & finances confirms that there’s no way to save costs without cutting what the report calls “an essential service for the region” with a fixed-route service that performs well. #SaveRIPTA 🚌

. @ripta.com to @mbta-cr.bsky.social PVD—>BOS on my way to @ncslorg.bsky.social conference today. Sitting with @katherinekazarian.bsky.social Grateful for public transit so I can commute to this conference. #saveRIPTA
I was honored to join so many everyday Rhode Islanders at the Pawtucket Public Library to speak up for public transportation. The brutal cuts to @RIPTA_RI are not inevitable; they are a policy choice. Instead we could do what 70% of RI voters support #TaxTheRich to #SaveRIPTA.
TAKE NEW ENGLAND WITH YOU, Rhode Island's government has just doomed it's citizens to a car-centric hell! At least Pritzker gives a damn about the CTA, Pace and METRA (yes don't ask why they're not all one unit lol) back in my birth city of Chicago! #SaveRIPTA
