Experts unsure how 'world's most destructive bee pests' landed in Australia Australia's leading biosecurity experts have been unable to trace the source of the of the bee-killing varroa mite incursion which has changed the face of beekeeping and pollination in Australia.

Yesterday, we saw two (2) honey bees next to each other, gathering pollen on basil plants here in the garden. A rare sight. It has been 4 years since honey bees all but disappeared around Newcastle & Lake Macquarie due to eradication. #VarroaMite #NoHoneyBees #Biodiversity #SaveNativeBees

Make sure you don't go cleaning up your leaves and dead flower stalks yet. Pollinators and other beneficial insects are using them (or will use them) as nurseries and homes where they can overwinter.

How close above the bumblebees living in a wood birdhouse

A Bumblebee nest is occupying this bird box in my backyard. Driving my pup Eris crazy. Luckily she can’t reach them.

Bees flying near cars are dying by the millions, a roadkill study suggests Scientists in Utah put sticky traps on car bumpers to tally how many bees get hit on a typical trip. The broader toll is immense, they estimate.

My takeaway is mainly for urban planners. Avoid installing native plants in medians and instead, keep them to both sides of the road. Bees consistently get hit by cars trying to cross into median gardens. Every effort helps in protecting our dwindling bee populations.
