Black-fruited sedge, good for butterflies, with coneflower and coreopsis leaves in autumn decline. The garden rock has gouges most likely made while being carried in the Laurentide Ice Sheet, as I pulled it out of a native clay bank on Lake Ontario. #gardening #sedges #gardensky #bloomscrolling

Something a bit different for #wildflowerhour
Most #sedges have stomata mainly confined to either the upper or lower leaf surfaces, but several hybrids (plus 3 UK species) have stomata both above and below. Probably the easiest way to confirm the hybrid between Carex elata and C. nigra, C. x turfosa
