I am heat sensitive and don't often notice thirst. Summer is not a comfortable time of year for me.

Check on your Autistic friends in the summer.

We are not okay.

Hand with Micropore plaster on thumb holds blue child’s toothbrush with a very over generous dollop of red, white and blue toothpaste on top. Held over a piece of white paper with a pencil sketch of the brush with another very rough sketch above it and a sort of star to the left (part of a home made fairy wand but this is not clear from this picture)

Roughly sketching very overloaded toothbrush for illustration practice & the minty smell of the toothpaste is SO strong! Small wonder some children recoil before the brush gets near their mouth. Others love the minty zing. Acceptance of these #SensoryDifferences important for successful #OralCare

Poem ‘Gravy Makes Me Wavy’ with photo of a white bowl full of baked beans on a tan coloured table. ‘Sometimes food isn’t fun, Because… Pie makes me cry, Yolk makes me choke, Peas make me wheeze, Cheese makes me sneeze, Curry makes me worry, Mince makes me wince, Peel makes me squeal, Tea makes me wee, Sauce makes me hoarse, Mustard makes me flustered, Liver makes me quiver, Butter makes me splutter, Pineapple makes me whine-apple, Fruit makes me toot, Gravy makes me wavy, And baked beans…just…make…me…fart! Sometimes food isn’t fun, But there is nothing better, Than a plateful of tasty nuggets, And oodles and woodles of yummy noodles!’

Our #sensorydifferences can make it harder for us to meet our nutritional requirements. Neurodivergent dietitians with lived experience understand this and can help in a neuro-affirming way. Adequate nutrition underpins ALL other physical therapies. Wish the #NDIS understood this!

Autistic people often experience pain differently, and that can be challenging. Especially when you consider how many of us live with chronic pain conditions.
