The Wairarapa, the home of TeePee Cider hosted the 2026 World Golden Shears at Masterton. This is an amazing competitive sport based on real farm life. Ten countries competing. Every room in the hotels and B+Bs were bookd out. Great to hear all the different languages. #sheep #shearing #competition

Hermy with her cute pink nose got her shave yesterday. She was a little over conditioned like her mom. However, she is half Icelandic from her dad’s side, so I expect to see a “sprung” ribcage on her. She was a little nervous at first but settled in.

Our Shropshire sheep had their once a year shear yesterday and it’s good to get the heavy coat off before the summer heat and humidity in the orchard cause fly strike. Flystrike in NZ sheep is caused mainly by the Australian green blowfly- Lucilia cuprina. Peter Vallance a maestro. #sheep #Shearing

Spent time in the Coburg Hills assisting with shearing since my broken wrist prohibited me from being more active with shearing/hooves. Very grateful for my friend Flora, who did the heavy lifting while I did more of the Vet tech type work.
