Sonora Jha 4h • O Look, many of us know what we're seeing. A man felt a hint of sarcasm from two women in his way. Two queer women. Two women who should have been afraid of him and his gun but instead spoke calmly, sort of laughed at him. We are reminded of Sandra Bland, the young Black woman who dared to talk back to a white state trooper, Brian Encinia, when he unlawfully dragged her out of her car and threw her in jail where she was found dead days later. We are reminded of Margaret Atwood's quote - "Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them." We are reminded. Look at these men, white men, empowered by an imperialist, capitalist, white supremacist state led by scared men who want to be the only ones allowed laughter. I wrote a book about men's rage at women's laughter. I'm crying today, I'll march tomorrow, but every day I will laugh at these puny, terrified men.
Thanks to @andthenisleep.bsky.social for posting this very accurate assessment of what we are seeing. Men lashing out in rage and fear at women they can neither equal nor control. Men are trying to end women’s rights in predictable fashion—with brutality.
