This summer, we're collaborating with @BronxisBlooming and their interns on #streettree care. This week they learned about #pruning, #stewardship, and #treeidentification. The interns are also learning how to advocate for trees and the vital role they play in our #urbanforest!
All trees, especially newly planted #trees, need thorough and deep watering during the spring, summer and fall months. Trees New York and our volunteers #water trees using buckets and hoses. Ideally, a #streettree needs 15 gallons of water per week, but every little bit helps!
There are so many ways to get involved if you love #trees - starting with #treebed clean up and #soilcultivation! A young #streettree often fails because of a lack of water, made worse by compacted soil and litter which blocks the movement of oxygen and water to the #treesroots.

オレンジ色のトランペット型の花です 葉は鮮やかな緑色、ハナミズキの葉とほぼ同じ色なので一体化して見えます
数本植えられてる街路樹のハナミズキの中で1本だけノウゼンカズラ（Campsis grandiflora）が一緒に育っていて、今年も満開になっています
ハナミズキの花が終わり濃い緑の葉が茂ってからノウゼンカズラが開花するのでとても目立って綺麗です

柔らかな棘がたくさんついているように見える緑色の実です 長期間木についたままで、最終的には茶色の乾燥しきった状態で落下します 葉は紅葉に似た5裂で爽やかな明るい緑色、木の枝や樹皮は灰色がかった褐色です
Liquidambar styraciflua 街路樹として植えられている「モミジバフウ」 の花を今年こそ見ようと思ってたのに、昨年同様にもう実が出来ています…
写真でしか花を見たことがなく、本当に目立たない色なので4月になったら注意しないといけないですね

樹高は50cmほど、白い花の木、濃いピンク色の木、ピンクと淡いピンクの2色が同じ木から咲くタイプがランダムに植えられています 葉は明るい黄緑ですが花に隠れてあまり見えません
スーパーマーケットの駐車場と道路を隔てる植え込みのツツジが満開になっていました
2色の花がつく咲き分けタイプもいて、とても綺麗です

こちらは開花直前の赤花ハナミズキです くるりとカールしてる姿が愛らしいです
まだ葉が少ないですが、葉も花も光に透けるので重なり合うのを見上げるのが好きです
低い位置にあった白花の枝先 花びらの先端は茶色に色付いてます

交通量の多い道路横に、寒さや排気ガスなどにも丈夫として街路樹として植えられてる乙女椿 多弁で丸く咲き、淡いピンク色が美しく愛らしいです

通常の椿が街路樹として植えられてる中で1本だけ「乙女椿」が混ざっていて、開花時期が少しずれるので綺麗に咲いてる時になかなか遭遇できませんでしたが今年は出会えました

ぱっと見た印象はボケですが、背丈は低く枝に棘が多いです 花はオレンジがかった赤色で葉は鮮やかな緑色の低木です
今年はどこも開花が遅れてますがこのクサボケも満開にはまだ時間がかかりそうです
Chaenomeles japonica 「クサボケ」はボケよりも背が低く育つようで道路と家屋を隔てる街路樹として植えられてるのを見つけました
真っ赤よりはオレンジがかった優しい色合いでとても愛らしいです
