#PigeonSky Joined forces with another lady today at lunchtime in the square, to rescue a #Pigeon with bad #stringfoot. Got him into my little net, wrapped him in towel & put him in a box, warm & cosy. Thence to the capable hands of Wildlife Alliance volunteers Sam & Sandy. Am hoping he'll be OK.
This is why we do what we do, but it's rare to see a "some time later" unless you're frequently hanging out with that flock. You just do what you can and hope you have given these birds some comfort and relief and that they will be all right.

Textieldraad op straat is slecht voor vogels. Duiven ontwikkelen hierdoor #stringfoot, waardoor hun pootjes verminkt raken. De Partij voor de Dieren maakt zich dan ook zorgen over de Stoffenmarkt die naar Dordrecht komt. Wij stellen vragen aan het stadsbestuur. #RaadDordt

Struggled to even find a #stringfoot pigeon today. Which is great! And the one I did find hadn't been injured yet. #CatchThePigeon.

The remnants of the pigeon's entanglement, now removed, along with a grubby and damp paper towel and the tweezers used to remove the hair.
And this was today's #stringfoot rescue. Took an hour and a half to catch and clean her up. She'd already lost most of her toes.
There were two others, but by the time I was done with her they'd gone off to roost. I'll go back next week.

This one was pretty grim. Not a #stringfoot She looked like she'd been hit by a strimmer. Feathers cut cleanly in a line and one leg almost sliced off.
She's now living her best pegleg #pigeon life, semi wild with a disabled flock her rehabber looks after. Got a handsome ex-racer mate & laid an egg!

One of my hobbies is rescuing #pigeons. City pigeons are prone to #stringfoot, where their feet get tied up in string, elastic, netting, & most often human hair. I catch them, de-string them, release them. I post with #CatchThePigeon over on Masto. Figured I should start a thread for it here.
Duiven hebben veel last van draadjes en haren om hun tenen. Ze kunnen er een verminkt pootje aan overhouden. Het is voor te stellen dat dit een erg pijnlijk proces is, dus waar mogelijk helpen we graag.

Found this little guy at the park with a foot tangled in plastic string and his middle toe swollen.
He came home with me. Three minutes of work to cut his foot free and some disinfectant. I got it early enough so there was no bleeding and he got to fly free.
