There has been a little arrival explosion. 49 birds arrived yesterday, bringing the total to 58, among which 27 males and 31 females, aged 4 - 18. #phenology #ternscience
And as a last update for today: 317 birds have now been registered by our antenna system, compared to 401 and 860 on the same day in 2022 and 2023, respectively. So it looks like #avianinfluenza has taken out 63% of birds. #HPAI #H5N1 #seabirds #ornithology #fieldwork #ternscience
In other lovely news: the first chick of 2024 hatched two days ago. We're hopeful for a big baby-boom to make up for the #HPAI induced losses of the last two years. #seabirds #ornithology #fieldwork #ternscience
