The Cholla cactus takes up much of the frame and has an orange halo because the sun is rising right behind it. This type of cactus has many arms like a tree, each covered in long spikes that will absolutely stick to you if you get too close. (I beg you to wear pants and shoes, not shorts and sandals, in this desert!) The orange glow extends to the grasses surrounding the cactus. In the background you can't see the orb of the sun, but the sky is brilliant yellow near the horizon.
