Context: An out of control trolley is coming down the track. you happen to find yourself at the intersection point of the trolley where the track splits into 3 directions. It is currently heading down the middle path. The middle path leads straight into a children's hospital that has its track under construction. If you do nothing it will derail and crash into the hospital and collapse the whole building killing all 2000 occupants(it was not built very structurally sound) and the fact you did nothing will be broadcast to the whole world. (This is here to ensure you don't do anything. but to simplify it, just please assume you cannot do nothing, you need to make a choice) You have the option to divert the track left or right, on the left and right track are two normal trolley problems, someone at a lever and two tracks with 1 person tied up and 5 people tied up, both left and right tracks from where you are lead to this, Each has their own trolley. However, if you pull the lever, whichever track it takes will kill the person who is at the lever making the decision, not the people tied to the track. Here is YOUR dilemma: The person on the left (top) track is someone who would pull the lever, they will pull the lever and kill the 1 person to save the 5 people. The person on the right (bottom) track is someone who would not pull the lever, letting the 5 people die and the one person live. That is the only context you have, you do not know if either of their reasonings to pull or not pull is done out of malice, indecision, or goodness. Simply put, would you kill the person who would pull the lever, or the person who wouldn't pull the lever? Which way do you pull the lever?
