Now is the chance for #scabious seed #vernalization !
Seeds are pretreated with gibberellin, then keep nearby 5 degrees C and wet for longer than 7 days. This is professional work of agricultural chemist!

3/13 He tried to soak seeds in water & chilled them for weeks, before sowing them in late winter/spring. These seeds then germinated in spring & flowered in the summer. In his 1928 publication, Lysenko named this process ‘jarovization’ (from jarovoe, Russian for spring cereals). #Vernalization

2/13 Winter wheat needs the cold in winter to induce flowering spring, but harsh winters with little snow will kill the seedlings, resulting in yield losses. So, Lysenko wanted to convert winter into spring wheat, which can be planted and flowers, in spring/summer. #Vernalization

Often, they do so via #chilling (like #vernalization in plants); development resumes first after a sufficient period of chilling, acting as an insurance against “accidentally” developing during a warm fall day instead of after winter (i.e. spring). But for how long, and how cold?

Exploring the molecular regulation of vernalization‐induced flowering synchrony in Arabidopsis New Phytologist is an international journal owned by the New Phytologist Foundation publishing original research in plant science and its applications.

🌼 New research sheds light on how vernalization synchronizes flowering in Arabidopsis. This study uncovers leaf-specific responses and signals from other tissues contributing to flowering synchrony.
