A “Snapshot Saturday” graphic with a sepia-toned filmstrip design. At the top, large white text reads “SNAPSHOT SATURDAY.” Below a row of film frames, small text reads: “Terminal workstations like this DEC VT100 were commonplace before PCs.” Centered in the graphic is a photograph of a DEC VT100 terminal. The terminal has a beige casing, a CRT screen displaying white-on-black text, and a built-in keyboard with numerous black keys. The monitor shows a list of commands or system information. On the right side of the bezel is the label “DEC VT100.” Beneath the image is a credit line: “Jason Scott, CC BY 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0 , via Wikimedia Commons https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DEC_VT100_terminal.jpg” At the bottom right corner of the graphic is the label: vintage.computer.

Before businesses had PCs, they had terminals like the VT100: it became a standard thanks to its reliability, clean ANSI-compatible display, and wide adoption across universities, labs, and businesses. #VintageComputing #DEC #VT100 #RetroTech #SnapshotSaturday #VintageComputer

Correctness matters! The community debated if Ghostty's WASM approach truly offers "proper" VT100 over JS approximations. This led to project clarification, highlighting the pursuit of accurate terminal emulation. #VT100 3/6

@ricci I just read on Wikipedia that #VT100 was released in 1978.

I've been using computers all my life, #Linux and #Unix since the 90s, and word processors since #Wordperfect 5.1 for #MS-DOS but I still can't grasp the #vim and #emacs keybindings. I know it's not necessary to learn all of them if all I'm doing is #writing novels but I still feel like I'm not […]

The DEC VT100, release in 1978, the terminal that defined them all. It introduced ANSI control sequences that still shape how modern terminal emulators work today. The VT100 was the foundation of digital interaction. #WowThatsFascinating #VT100 #DEC #Terminal #VintageComputer

A nice find at the electronics flea market. If I had free space, these would be a fun #retrocomputing restoration project. For now I need to stick with my small scale #vt100 replicas.

Before the mouse era, computer users navigated screens by sending VT100 binary codes to reposition the cursor, clear the screen, and manipulate text. 🖥️

No clicks, just escape sequences! 🚀 #VT100 #Linux

My #RaspberryPi powered #VT100 replica is coming together. The case is a #3DPrint, it's got a 5" display, and it follows the actual case design fairly closely. Running cool-retro-term as a terminal gives it that old CRT feeling (can't really see it in the picture).
