Warwick Davis Receives OBE From the Prince of Wales for Services to Drama and Charity Warwick Davis, best known to _Star Wars_ fans as Wicket the Ewok and Weazel, has received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from the Prince of Wales as part of a special ceremony at Windsor Castle. Davis received the honour for his services to drama, recognising his long career in film with roles in _Willow_ and _Harry Potter_ as well as numerous characters in a galaxy far, far away. The award also recognised his charity work, where he advocates for people with dwarfism. Born with a rare form of dwarfism called Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, Davis champions that anything is possible for people with similar conditions. Accompanied by his children Annabelle and Harrison (who played Wicket’s son in _The Rise of Skywalker)_ the actor was touched when, as a sign of respect, His Highness knelt down when speaking to him: > “It was lovely the way he came down to my level instead of standing and looking down at me.” In an interview posted by the Prince and Princess of Wales on their YouTube channel, Davis credited his grandmother who knew of his love for _Star Wars_ at the age of 11 with launching his career. He looks at his role in _Star Wars_ and how the franchise, and the fame it has brought him, has given him the opportunity to bring together people with dwarfism. > “I didn’t really want to be an actor. I just kind of came into it through my grandmother. At 11 I was a massive fan of _Star Wars_ and she heard an announcement from Lucasfilm that they were looking for short people to be in [_Return of the Jedi_] and, yeah, that was my journey into that galaxy far, far away. > > “Probably about ten years ago I founded Little People UK with my wife Sam. It’s a really wonderful thing to see people come together who only have one thing in common, share stories, share worries, share woes and share happiness. Someone with dwarfism is exactly the same as anyone else except they’re in a smaller body. They have the same dreams, same goals, same desire for love and happiness.” The Prince of Wales is clearly an admirer of Warwick Davis’ work, telling the actor he should have already received an honour ‘years go’.
