But it can also as an emergency contraceptive; to treat a certain type of brain tumor; for endometriosis and fibroids; or to induce labor.

One personal comment. My mom had a couple of miscarriages, both followed up by a D&C, before I was born. I knew about this as a kid, so I thought a D&C was a normal and common part of reproductive health care.
And it is. But these bans are making it hard to give such routine care.

What really hit me hard about this article was that this woman had a chronic illness/disability – in this case lupus – which makes it 20-fold more likely she could die from pregnancy. Access to abortion is vital for people with chronic illness. Like me. Like her.

This is the second article from @propublica.bsky.social in which a woman died after a self-managed abortion required a follow-up dilation and curettage procedure, but due to state abortion bans, a D&C was delayed or unavailable.
