These are called "Contours" and this kind of work is required for moving earth in order to level ground for construction, calculate grades for water and sewer, runoff, etc. Capturing topography data with UAS (Drones) is significantly less costly.

Fixed wing aircraft can easily map up to 680 acres on one battery!
