Almost All Languages Appear To Follow Zipf's Law, And We Have No Idea Why Even the languages we haven't deciphered yet, such as the one in the Voynich Manuscript, appear to follow this rule.

Linguists are still uncertain why Zipf’s Law holds, however. The most prevalent idea is that it helps us be as efficient as possible in our communication.
