The snow and ice covered quay of the north side of the Western Gap, a line of disused docking bollards run most of its length and a couple walk to its end. Buoys marking the passage can be seen in the lake.
Ducks, one taking off, swim in the channel and, on the south side of the Gap, a signal building, topped with a short pylon holding a light, is the tallest structure in this area of the Island Airport. The southern quay is periodically accented by ladders down to the water’s surface and rescue equipment.
The same signal structure and a large rectangular sign are now silhouettes against the fading western sky. The ripples in the lake still catching the sun.
Losing the light at the Western Gap.
