Schools forced kids to learn on the BBC Micro, then expected them to go home and understand their Spectrum’s rubber keyboard. No wonder so many ‘80s kids got good at troubleshooting.

The Dragon 32 was a noble attempt at a British-built home computer. Unfortunately, it was also a noble attempt at making TRS-80 software seem desirable. I have one now, but I'm finding it hard to find anyone saying positive things. Can anyone help?

The ZX Spectrum’s rainbow stripe wasn’t just branding - it was a warning label for the colour clash inside.

Yet somehow, we adored every garish blob.

MSX aimed to standardise home computing. If it had gained more traction in the UK, could it have prevented the market from becoming so fragmented? We all remember the many multiple software formats in shops like Woolworths!

If UK schools had standardised on a ZX Spectrum (or even a C64!) instead of the BBC Micro, how differently might the UK’s software industry have evolved? Would ARM have existed?

It's from @internetarchive and it was written in 1979,the year of my birth.

I was in front of a TRS-80 with this book and not really knowing what I was supposed to do with it at about 5 […]
