Invest #96L, a non-tropical low northwest of the Azores, is really trying to be a #Karen. It has developed a solid ring of convection with an eye feature and appears to be on the verge of becoming a subtropical or tropical cyclone. It doesn't have much time, though.

Talk about surprises: newly designated #96L could become a subtropical storm in the coming days. The structure of the system is very similar to storms like Patty last year and other subtropical spinups recently, so with continued convection overnight I wouldn't be surprised if this got a name. 🌀

#96L is doing better this afternoon, with convection flaring at the diurnal minimum. Note the inflow into this convection as well. Suggests a low trying to develop in there. However stable air surrounds it. It can still develop, but if this subseasonal pulse produces 96L will be overshadowed
