Wind gusts will be strong throughout the storm system's passage through the Northland. Gusts of 30 to 45 mph are likely across the region from the east and northwest Saturday night through Sunday evening. They will then shift to the north Sunday night and remain strong through Monday morning.
The North Shore region of the Northland is under a Wind Advisory from 7 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026 through 1 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2026. Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are possible from the north. The advisory could become a High Wind Warning if gusts of 60+ mph become likely.
Regardless of how much #snow you so, everyone will have to deal with strong #winds as the #storm system passes through.
#Gusts of 30 to 45 mph are likely for all, but they will get stronger Sunday night for the #NorthShore once they shift to the north.

As of the evening of March 14, 2026, the winter weather alerts in the Northland for the upcoming storm system include a Blizzard Warning for Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Gogebic, Iron, Ontonagon, Pine, Sawyer, and Washburn counties. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for southern Aitkin, Carlton, and southern St. Louis counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northern Aitkin and southern Lake counties. These areas are the most likely to see a period of heavy snowfall rates and strong winds, creating near whiteout and blizzard conditions. These alerts run from late Saturday evening through Monday morning, March 16, 2026.
The highest forecasted snowfall totals include 12 to 24+ inches for the areas of Ashland, Gogebic, Iron, and Ontonagon counties away from the Lake Superior shoreline, as well as most of Sawyer and Washburn counties. Other snowfall totals include 10 to 20 inches for the rest of northwest Wisconsin, 8 to 16 inches for the I-35 Corridor, 5 to 10 inches in the Twin Ports, 2 to 6 inches for the southern section of the South Shore and the Iron Range, and under 2 inches for the Rainy River Basin and Boundary Waters regions.
Due to the combination of heavy snowfall rates and persistent strong winds, the winter storm severity index is in a major impact category for portions of northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula, with moderate impact extending across the rest of these regions. This means travel is not advised during the storm system's impact in the area, and could be dangerous to do so.
