Tee up for mental health GOLF By BLAKE METCALF-HOLT   WHILE ever the frustrating sport, local golfers gathered recently for a friendly hit and to be reminded of those that are there to support during troubled times. Traralgon Golf Club hosted Tee Up for Mental Health, seeing more than 180 people arrive to the golf course to raise money for Lifeline Gippsland and Rotary Club of Traralgon. The event partnered with ACSO (Australian Community Support Organisation) and has been running annually for the last few years, with the most recent day by far its biggest showing. While the overall tally had yet to be confirmed at the time of writing, the total is believed to have significantly exceeded last year’s tally of $25,000. Great showing: More than 180 golfers took to the Traralgon Golf Course to support Tee Up for Mental Health. Photographs: Blake Metcalf-Holt Rotary Club of Traralgon were committed to putting the money back into youth support initiatives and programs locally, while Lifeline Gippsland continue its involvement in the national 13 11 14 crisis line and delivery of suicide prevention across the region. “Lifeline Gippsland is so heartened by the support of our partners and community,” Lifeline Gippsland Chief Executive, Cindy Pullar said. “Events like (this) give an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and wellbeing and simple steps others can take to reduce the stigma around help seeking. “Thank you to Melina Bath (Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region), all the players, sponsors, and the wonderful event committee.” Lifeblood of the community: Rotary Club of Traralgon volunteers Sandra Butler, Norm Butler, Janet O’Brien, Helen Wallis and Peter Wallis kept golfers well fed for the charity day. Alongside Lifeline Gippsland, Rotary Club of Traralgon and ACSO, the event’s committee included support in the lead-up and on the day by the local substance abuse support group and the Traralgon Golf Club. Accompanying the typical 18-hole experience, some colourful stopovers were set-up including putting a ball in a boat situated on the water and a $10,000 hole in one shot on the Hole 6, Par 5.
