Saw a special screening (thanks #AFISilver #SearchlightPictures) of #TheTestamentOfAnnLee who brought the Shaker movement to America. Fascinating picture by the scriptwriters of #TheBrutalist. Don’t expect a musical (music is good) do expect to see how religious fever can be drawn from experience)

At part of #AFISilver EU festival, Köln 75 is about Vera Brandes, & jazz. There's a great line about how America (in the 70s!) was finding artists too risky to promote, while in Europe, "they still have ears". Brandes was 18, when she organized Keith Jarrett's famous Köln Concert. Its a lot of fun.

Spent the morning (staycation) watching Ran on the big screen at #AFISilver. Still an incredible movie and one of the best portrayals of King Lear in cinema. Every shot is a masterpiece (and I still wince when I see the stuntman stepped on by the horses galloping). Ran means Chaos. Apt 4 the times.

Went and saw ‘A House on Fire’ at #AFISilver (part of their Spanish film festival). It was great, and if you can’t see it in theater, pretty sure it’s headed to Netflix. It’s a dark comedy about a family trying to sell their beach house and dark secrets spill out.

Years ago there were two places #AFIDOCS used to play. In Silver Spring at #AFISilver and at E St cinema. Unfortunately E Street cinema never recovered from the pandemic, and #AFIDOCS was suspended around the same time. So it looks like E Street will close next month.

In a completely different change of scene from the election, off to see the movie that inspired the creators of Batman, the silent 1926 movie, The Bat (with live music!). Having the #AFISilver nearby is a godsend (they are having a silent movie festival the next few weeks)
