What a lame substitute for #APointOfView is Witness History. Lightweight tickertape facts don't touch the sides. If #HughLevinson claims it's available elsewhere how come #BBCRadio4 still gives hours of sports coverage on #BBCr4today when it dedicates a whole channel #BBC5live?
Being away for a while in March, I have just caught up with the BBC decisions to shut down #APointOfView & end overseas access to BBCSounds. Aside from the sheer incompetence of these decisions, in the week of increases to the Licence Fee, the optics could not be worse.

Having excised speech from its schedule, bizarrely #BBCRadio3 hasn't let its #NewGenerationThinkers go to #BBCRadio4 alongside #BBCFreeThinking where their rather excellent essays would sit perfectly... Currently sitting through the 2nd daily dose of sports news on #BBCR4Today (10 min's total Saturdays; 3 slots totalling 15 minutes every weekday) which is, of course interminable & untouchable. But one 9 minute #APointOfView is thought too much for the national broadcaster's flagship speech channel.
The #BBC claims one weekly 9-minute essay on a topical issue commissioned from a leading writer is too expensive & there are "alternatives" elsewhere.
