This massive, rocky mountain dominates the South East end of Medicine Lake. It's lower slopes are covered with conifer forest which thins dramatically as the slope turns to bare rock.
The mountain is made from sedimentary rocks, the beds of rock have been turned to nearly vertical by the tectonic pressures that built the Rockies.
Medicine Lake is the point where the river from Maligne Lake (further up the valley) disappears underground to form a huge network of underground channels. The lake level fluctuates through the year being at it's highest in Spring when the incoming flow exceeds the capacity of the underground channels to drain the water.
One for #MountainMonday, not done one of these for a while.
Medicine Lake, Jasper, Alberta, Canada. June 2018
Surprisingly this peak appears to have no name (correct me if I'm wrong).
