Don't underestimate the importance of getting this right.

🔹 Use 1.5x line spacing for body text.

🔹 Avoid cramped text—it slows reading.

🔹 Better spacing = better comprehension.

Digital accessibility testers - I need your help!

WCAG criteria 1.4.4 Resize text - the guidance is to have the display set to 1280 pixels wide at 100% scaling. Then set the browser to 200%.

My question - does the display setting pixel height matter? I have a choice of 1024, 960, 800, 768, 720, and 600. I've always used 1024, but perhaps there's a more suitable height.

For comparison, Criteria 1.4.10 Reflow provides guidance that the display should be set to 1280 by 1024 pixels at 100% scaling.

This thread has basics on how to use alt-text. But what is a good alt-text? Another topic for #AccessibilityTips. Sidenotes: Don't use them as SEO keyword list.
1/

(It also needs more evidence whether unfortunately Meta apps suppress content with actual alt-text by many people's experience.)

Then the next thing: hashtags and separating words with a Capital Letter.

Screenreaders often just blurt out the letters, making the rest of the hashtag just alphabet gurgle.

Write each starting word with a big letter: eg. #AccessibilityTips.

(Some remember the Icelandic Pizza Album Party.)

#BlueSkyTips / #AccessibilityTips:

To generate Alt-text you can get help from the Be My AI feature in @bemyeyes.bsky.social app. But pls make sure to edit to improve accuracy.

You can also include #Alt4me or Alt4me in text to get a volunteer from the community to do for you. Pls don't abuse it.

Accessibility tip: capitalise each word in your hashtags, #LikeThis! This helps visually impaired users, whose assistive technologies will be better able to announce the hashtags as distinct words. And it helps with readability for sighted users, too! #AccessibilityTips #MakeTheWorldAccessible

Another habit I’ve picked up is capitalising every word when tagging.
I read somewhere that it helps screen readers to differentiate words, and not run them together into one big nonsense word. #AccessibilityTips

The role="presentation" attribute strips an HTML element of its default semantics, rendering it similar to a div or span. This is helpful when an element is employed solely for controlling presentation or layout, or when its native semantics aren't suitable. #accessibilitytips

Make your posts more accessible to those w/visual limitations by incl alt text when posting images. Turn on "require alt text" in bsky.app/settings/acc... to remind.

Alt text also picked up by some custom feeds, helps w/discovery.
