And when I do find them, they are unaffordable. I’ve often collected my own from flowers in my yard. This year I have decided to also harvest expired flowers from public spaces. Why shouldn’t I? There’s always so many, and I only take what my hand can hold. As long as we take only what we need, we will always have enough. That reminds me of a book I enjoyed reading called “Braiding Sweetgrass”. That book, along with “Finding the Mother Tree” taught me so much about plants and nature. About ecosystems. Appropriate I suppose, as I’m learning that I too am an ecosystem.
Today I am creating the elements of my Lilith altar that I will put together in October.

My hand folding about a dozen of small, yellow flowers I harvested from a Mullein plant in my yard. Best to harvest in the morning after the dew has dried. They don’t bloom all at once so multiple harvests are needed. Mullein has healing properties for the lungs especially. It may be brewed in tea which I’ve never done yet but heard the taste is unpleasant. I smoke the leaves & it provides a feeling of body calm as opposed to elevated feelings/being high.

It looked treacherous so I thought I should definitely do it. This is a drain area of a retention pond at Memorial Park in Scarborough, Maine. There are rocks, mulch, and many plants/flowers leading down to the pond. The tall spikes with yellow flowers are Mullein plants, and that’s the object of my desire.
