The Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll McNeill has today officially launched a new #BowelScreen endoscopy service in Cork University Hospital.

We now have 16 endoscopy units in Ireland delivering colonoscopy procedures to people who take part in BowelScreen.

Over 11,000 people had a #colonoscopy over the 2 years. We found and removed polyps in over 4,000 people. 849 people had advanced polyps removed.

Most bowel cancers develop from polyps. Removing them at colonoscopy lowers a person’s risk of developing bowel cancer.

Based on the invited population, the screening uptake rate is 46.4%.
