Oh cool the #CNEOS sky survey has picked up a potential impactor for 8y from now: #2024YR4. DON’T WORRY, this object has only been observed for 4 days and its orbit will likely get refined in a few days with more data.

@NASAJPL’s #CNEOS counts 29,131 near-Earth asteroids, 852 that are >1km in size & would cause catastrophic damage if it hit Earth. This summer I’m an academic director @SSPers where talented HS students in STEM are tasked with observing a NEA & determining its orbit. #AsteroidDay
