Two Fireballs Classified as Interstellar Reignite Debate Over Meteor Rates and Possible Artificial Probes Host The Angry Astronaut reviews a new analysis by Avi Loeb and a postdoctoral collaborator identifying two recent fireballs (July 28, 2022 and February 12, 2025) as statistically robust interstellar meteors based on calibrated velocity modeling of NASA’s CNEOS data. The discussion weighs the scientific implications of an unexpectedly high rate of meter-scale interstellar impacts against speculative interpretations that some entries could be deliberate probes, possibly linked to larger visitors such as 3I Atlas.

Dang, it’s still there.
And the newest observations up thru YESTERDAY haven’t made it go away (like usually happens)

The potential Torino-1-level impactor is still there after a few more days of observations, according to #CNEOS
(NOT a big worry)

Keeping an eye on these weird things is just one more service I offer

Oh cool the #CNEOS sky survey has picked up a potential impactor for 8y from now: #2024YR4. DON’T WORRY, this object has only been observed for 4 days and its orbit will likely get refined in a few days with more data.

@NASAJPL’s #CNEOS counts 29,131 near-Earth asteroids, 852 that are >1km in size & would cause catastrophic damage if it hit Earth. This summer I’m an academic director @SSPers where talented HS students in STEM are tasked with observing a NEA & determining its orbit. #AsteroidDay
