Because glazes don't look the way they will be once fired, I decide which glazes goes where on the piece, then I take pictures of it as each square needs 3 layers and obviously, after the first layer, the writing is no longer visible. The pictures help me to keep on the right track.
I apply the glazes one by one - each layer 3 times for full opaque coverage. I chose glazes which are fairly stable and won't run all over the piece once they melt in the heat of the kiln.
As you can see... this is all the glazes applied and drying, ready to go into the kiln for a glaze firing.
(This little one got broken when another piece fell on top during the kiln loading. It will stay with me as I fell in love with it.)
The colours look washed out on the left of the pictures as the sun peaked through the clouds but you get the idea.
Sometimes we all need a little warmth - a hug, a kind word, a small reminder that we’re cared for.
I made these small vases, gently wrapped in their clay shawls, offering a touch of comfort and a whisper of “you’re not alone.”
