Ancient church in the village of Llaneilian in Anglesey. Legend has it that Eilan was sent by the Pope to Anglesey as an emissary to Cadwallon Lawhir, ruler of Anglesey. As well as his household, Eilian brought a number of oxen. Cadwallon seized the animals and in retaliation Eilian struck the king blind, then offered to restore his sight in return for as much land as a deer could run while being pursued.

Cadwallon did as he was asked, granting Eilan land, on which then established a church around 450AD.

Even though it is in a fairly out of the way place, St Eilian’s church is well known on Anglesey for its unusual 12th century stone pyramidal spire and the wooden carvings and paintings inside.

The ancient church of St Patrick in Llanbadrig, Anglesey.
Information found on
 https://cemaes.wales/local-places/llanbadrig-church/

Legend says that in 440 AD a celtic bishop called Patrick was travelling from Iona to Ireland when he was shipwrecked off the coast of Anglesey. Having made his way ashore from the small islet now known as Ynys Badrig (St. Patrick’s Island), the bishop took refuge in a small cave with a nearby well. Patrick commemorated his escape from danger by founding the original Eglwys Llanbadrig – Saint Patrick’s Church.

St Patrick’s Cave is still there, marked by a plaque up on the cliffs overlooking the spot, but the way to the cave itself is steep and dangerous.

It's honestly scary how much this quote from the queen resonates today. It drives me crazy seeing news stories, especially regarding immigration, where the rights of human beings are being crushed and no one is being held accountable. #TMITM #closetohome

Keeping Quiet by Pablo Neruda to accompany this view of the still, quiet waters of Porth Llegog in Anglesey.

Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still
for once on the face of the earth,
let’s not speak in any language;
let’s stop for a second,
and not move our arms so much.

It would be an exotic moment
without rush, without engines;
we would all be together
in a sudden strangeness.

Fishermen in the cold sea
would not harm whales
and the man gathering salt
would not look at his hurt hands.

Those who prepare green wars,
wars with gas, wars with fire,
victories with no survivors,
would put on clean clothes
and walk about with their brothers
in the shade, doing nothing.

What I want should not be confused
with total inactivity.
Life is what it is about;
I want no truck with death.

If we were not so single-minded
about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing,
perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness
of never understanding ourselves
and of threatening ourselves with death.
Perhaps the earth can teach us
as when everything seems dead
and later proves to be alive.

Now I’ll count up to twelve
and you keep quiet and I will go
